2010 Nomination Material for Diocesan Offices

To: All Rectors, Vicars, Wardens, Vestries and Congregations of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande:

The 2010 Nominating Committee is pleased to announce that it is now receiving nominations for the diocesan offices to be filled at Convention, October 21-22, 2010.

The following procedures are to be followed:

• All candidates are asked to submit a passport size photo along with their biographical information form.

• All nominations must be received at Diocesan House by August 6, 2010 in order to comply with Diocesan Canons and permit timely submission to the Diocesan Convention staff for publication. Nominations by electronic means accompanied by a .jpg photo are preferred. Nominations received after that date will be returned for nomination from the floor.

• No major changes have been made to the information form.

• As in the past, no nominating speeches will be allowed from the floor of Convention.

Proposed constitution and canon changes and resolutions are required no fewer than sixty (60) days prior to Convention. Due date: August 20, 2010.

Please share all of this information with the members of your congregations and assist them in completing and processing the required paperwork. Also, please pray for a successful Convention.

DIOCESAN OFFICES TO BE ELECTED – 2010

A. STANDING COMMITTEE (Canon 4) 6 members elected by Convention for 3 year terms; 2 term limit; 1 clergy and 1 layperson elected each year:

One Lay Person for a three year term.

One Clergy Person for a three year term.

B. DIOCESAN COUNCIL (Canon 5) 4 members elected by Convention for a 2 year term; 2 term limit; 1 clergy; 1 lay person elected each year:

One Lay Person for a two year term.

One Clergy Person for a two year term.

C. COMMISSION ON MINISTRY (Canon 16) 4 members elected by Convention for a 4 year term; 2 term limit; odd years elect 1 clergy; even years elect 1 lay person:

One Lay Person for a four year term.

D. ECCLESIASTICAL COURT (Canon 17) 7 members elected by convention for a 3 year term; 1 clergy and 1 lay person elected each year:

One Clergy Person for a term lasting until the 2009 revisions of Title IV of Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church go into effect in July, 2011.

One Lay Person for a term lasting until the 2009 revisions of Title IV of Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church go into effect in July, 2011.

E. CATHEDRAL CHAPTER (Canon 18) 3 members elected by convention for a 3 year term; 1 term limit:

One Lay or Clergy Person for a three year term.

FLOOR NOMINATION PROCEDURES

1. A biographical information (nomination) form is required from each person nominated from the floor.

2. Three hundred (300) copies of the biographical form must be delivered to the Convention office for each candidate by 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to Convention (October 20, 2010) so that a copy may be placed in each delegate packet.

3. At the time of the report of the Nominating Committee, the floor will be opened for other nominations.

4. Clergy: Please copy the biographical form for your parishioners who wish to nominate from the floor (form is on the Diocesan website).

5. All required signatures of clergy and senior warden or bishop’s warden must be included on the form; all clergy candidates must have the endorsement of their area dean.

6. No candidate may stand for election to more than one of the following positions:

• Standing Committee
• Diocesan Council
• Commission on Ministry

7. No supporting speeches for candidates will be permitted, either for those nominated from the floor or those nominated prior to convention.
